Enforcement & Litigation

The litigation and enforcement team at LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne forms a unique combination of experience, effective trial instincts and thoroughness, technical expertise, budget consciousness, creativity and common sense. We combine the service, continued personal contact and flexibility of a small firm with the capacity to handle substantial intellectual property litigation cases. Our work also included proceedings before the Patent and Trademark Office and internet domain name dispute resolution.

Our litigation team is headed by partner Robert Payne, an AV-rated litigator with over thirty years litigation experience, including multi-million dollar judgments and settlements; past Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar; and 2009-2011 Chair of the Patent Litigation Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. The core team also includes associates Scott Allen and Christopher Passarelliand a dedicated support staff. David LaRiviere, and Damon Thurston also provide support in patent and trademark enforcement.

For nearly all of our history, LGP has provided IP enforcement services including infringement analyses, arbitration, mediation, and litigation. For some time, we have been keenly aware of the need to offer cost-effective
companion services for combating the production and distribution of counterfeit goods. On November 2, 2009, we announced the opening of LGP Asia in Bangkok, Thailand, with the two-fold goal of
 1) recovering damages and costs related to counterfeiting, and 2) maintaining the integrity of our clients’ supply chains and offshore manufacturing operations.

Edward J. Kelly, LGP’s Director of Asian Operations, has spearheaded aggressive, successful anti-counterfeiting efforts in Southeast Asia for more than 9 years. As a result of his efforts, he has earned the trust, respect and cooperation of
key law enforcement, customs and multinational company officials resulting in the global resources and the on-ground experience LGP needed to provide
this unique and valuable service offering to our clients.
