MONTEREY, CA -- Robert Payne, of LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne (LGP), is the new chair of the Patent Litigation Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Payne had served as Vice-Chair on the Committee. The Patent Litigation Committee is one of the largest committees in the AIPLA. Its members are lawyers across the US who regularly handle patent disputes in federal courts and related venues. The committee shares insights, information and educational programs on patent litigation and advises the AIPLA board of directors on related matters.
Payne has practiced law for 30 years and concentrates his practice intellectual property. He graduated from Stanford (’72) and earned his law degree from University of California, Davis (’75). He also holds an LL.M. (Master of Laws) in International Law from University of London. He is licensed to practice in California, Texas, Idaho and Washington. In addition, he is admitted to practice before the Federal Circuit of the US Appeals and US Supreme Court.
The 112-year-old AIPLA is a national bar association made up of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service and in the academic community. AIPLA represents a wide spectrum of individuals, companies and institutions involved in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and unfair competition law. Members represent both owners and users of intellectual property. Today’s announcement comes on the heels of heightened focus on international IP issues for the LGP law firm. Last month the firm hired renowned IP attorney Ed Kelly to run its legal operations in Asia.
