Howdy, folks. It’s the Ol’ Sage again. Maybe you recall, last time I was talkin’ ‘bout the Dude. Actually, I was really talkin’ ‘bout the Senate playin’ possum on patent re-form. Well, there’s playin’ possum and then there’s a bug-eyed skunk lyin’ like a pancake on the Interstate, with a Goodyear tire track runnin’ down ‘er back. Patent re-form is now dead. For awhile, anyways.
Seems the Senate woke up just long ‘nuf to take the re-form Senate bill off the table for this session. Somethin’ ‘bout ‘Publicans and Democrats not seein’ eye to eye on this or that. I heard the agreement on the whole bill depended on how to change the rules on awardin’ damages. It tied the bill together. Now, nothin’ was certain ‘bout gettin’ passage. So, them senators rolled a gutter ball, I guess. Obviously, they weren’t golfers.
I got an opinion, if you care to hear it. I think them fellers (and gals, if you’re into the whol’ PC thing) bit off more chaw’n they could spit out. If I was fixin’ to fix reform by “re-formin’” the reform – kinda like the sound of that; oh well – if I was fixin’ to fix things, I’d break ‘er up. I’d start with the parts that they all can agree on. Get ‘er passed. ‘Rassle the hard parts later. Roast the rump, even if you can’t cook the whole side of beef. Well, maybe that’s not the preferred nomenclature, but I ‘spose you catch my drift.
