Matt Powelson Elected to State Bar Intellectual Property Officer Track. Partner Matt Powelson has been elected to the officer track of the California Bar Intellectual Property Section. He will assume duties as Secretary for the Section in September. In the second year his position is scheduled to be Vice Chair-Treasurer and then Chair of the Section in his third year as officer. After Mr. Powelson becomes Chair, every partner of LGP will have served as Chair of this statewide organization. The California Intellectual Property Section is the nation’s third largest intellectual property law organization, after the American Intellectual Property Law Section (AIPLA), and the ABA’s Section of Intellectual Property Law.
Robert Payne Chosen to Become Next Chair of the AIPLA Patent Litigation Committee. Partner Robert Payne has been confirmed as the incoming Chair of the Patent Litigation Committee of the AIPLA. Payne currently serves as Vice Chair of the Committee, and is active in coordinating meetings and subcommittees, participation in AIPLA amicus affairs, interaction with the board of directors of AIPLA and developing educational programs for committee members. The Patent Litigation Committee is one of the largest committees of the AIPLA.
David LaRiviere Deepens Involvement with INTA. Partner David LaRiviere has been invited to continue in 2010 for another year on the Roundtable Sub-Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA). These popular two-hour discussions on current trademark topics are held in numerous cities throughout the world, enabling members to focus with colleagues on trademark and related issues of interest. Mr. LaRiviere has also been invited to participate on the Planning Committee for the 2011 Annual Meeting of INTA, INTA is the premier, worldwide organization concerned with the protection of trademarks, with members in nearly every commercialized country. In May, 2011, the Annual Meeting will be held in San Francisco.
Payne to Speak on Patent Damages at IP Section Annual Institute in November. Robert Payne will address the California Bar Intellectual Property Section at its annual institute in Dana Point, California, on Compensatory Patent Damages. Mr. Payne has previously presented on this topic to the AIPLA membership and other organizations.
LGP Attorneys Teach Patent and Trade Secret Law at Monterey College of Law. Attorneys at LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne have teamed up to conduct an eight-week course on patent and trademark law at the Monterey College of Law this spring through mid-July. The team, presenting on various topics for three hours a week, is composed of: Dave LaRiviere, Ryan Trunck, Damon Thurston, Greg Kelly, Chris Passarelli, Scott Allen and Robert Payne.
