On June 18, David Kappos was announced as the incoming Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and Under Secretary of Commerce. Mr. Kappos comes from IBM, where he has been Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, in charge of IBM’s intellectual property portfolio. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), among other organizations.
In honor of his appointment, lgp@law has reprinted below its humor article entitled, “Why did IBM Skip the Loo?” It would be interesting to know if Mr. Kappos had a hand in this ill-fated patent application.
