LGP Asia Participated in a Counterfeit Destruction Ceremony in Thailand. Representatives of LGP Asia based in Bangkok, including director Ed Kelly and Tisha Yingluecha, attended a ceremony at which over 120 tons of counterfeit products worth over $100 million was destroyed by Thai authorities. The event is a collaboration among the Thai Commerce Ministry, the Customs Department, the Department of Special Investigations, the Intellectual Property Department and the Royal Thai Police. LGP Asia works closely with these authorities on behalf of its clients, several of whom were direct beneficiaries of the counterfeit seizures. Passarelli Ascends to BLS Executive Committee. LGP Associate Chris Passarelli joined the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Business Law Section in September. Passarelli is rolling off his 2010-2011 term as Agribusiness Chair into a new role as primary liaison to the Agribusiness Committee and member of the Programs & Publications Subcommittee for 2011 – 2012. Among his accomplishments as Chair of the BLS Agribusiness Committee, Chris was the architect of numerous Continuing Legal Education and field programs for legal practitioners, and oversaw commercial release of the California State Bar’s Agribusiness Law Source Book, a ten-year effort of the committee. The BLS is one of the largest and active sections of the State Bar.

Kunwar “Cora” Singh Joins LGP. Patent attorney Kunwar “Cora” Singh has joined LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne as an associate attorney. Cora practices both patent prosecution to obtain and maintain issued patents and intellectual property litigation. Ms. Singh has worked with diverse technologies such as semi conductors and electronic circuits, IC manufacturing including clock and data recovery IC, computer hardware, virtual testing environments for wireless systems, global positioning and navigation systems, cloud computing, Web Services protocols, MEMS technology, error correction and signal processing, video on-demand, network protocols, and mobile to desktop synchronization. She has won Best Oralist awards on the national level and been nominated twice in the Top 12 most persuasive speakers in America (2002 and 2004).

Robert Payne co-chaired and spoke at Law Seminar International's seminar on Intellectual Property and Privacy in the Workplace on September 21st in Brisbane, California. Mr. Payne spoke on assignment of inventions and patent rights in light of recent Supreme Court and Congressional developments. This program focused on the intersection of employment law and intangible business assets.

John Nielsen Joins LGP. Patent attorney John Nielsen has joined LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne. John has over twenty years legal experience, and is a registered patent attorney. His representative technologies include telecommunications systems, optical networks, medical devices and various electronic and software technologies.

Scott Allen Speaks to Texas Bar on Unauthorized, Online Dealers. Scott Allen spoke at the Texas Bar Annual Meeting in Fort Worth in June on intellectual property and related issues facing manufacturers and producers who are plagued by unauthorized, online dealers. Unauthorized dealers often compete unfairly in eBay and other sites by improperly undercutting prices and selling counterfeit or gray market goods.

LaRiviere Selected for Executive Committee of Business Law Section.
Partner Dave LaRiviere has joined the Executive Committee for the Business Law Section, one of the largest sections of the California State Bar. As a patent lawyer with broad intellectual property expertise in patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, international protection and enforcement, Mr. LaRiviere contributes unique insights for the Executive Committee on its myriad business law considerations.

LGP Lawyer Ed Kelly Honored by Boston Law School
Boston University School of Law honored attorney Ed Kelly this week for his groundbreaking legal work to fight illicit trafficking and counterfeit operations in Asia. Kelly was presented with the Victor Garo Public Service Award in a ceremony at Barristers Hall on the Campus of BU. Kelly, a 1991 alumnus of BU, joined the Monterey, California law firm of LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne in 2009. He is based in Bangkok where he oversees the firm’s operations in Asia.(more)
