David LaRiviere and Evelyn Martin Speak at Legal Tech Conference. David LaRiviere and Evelyn Martin spoke on June 24 in Los Angeles at the West Coast Legal Tech Conference on Applying Project Management Principles to Law Practice. The presentation included advice on setting up management systems and evaluation of fixed fee and other creative billing arrangements for performing legal services.
Scott Allen Published in State Bar Publication on Federal Court Pleading Changes. Scott Allen’s article on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ground-breaking decision of
Iqbal v. Ashcroft was published in the quarterly journal of New Matter. The publication is the official quarterly journal for the Intellectual Property Section of the California State Bar, and distributed to all 5,000 plus members of the Section.
Christopher Passarelli Appointed Chair of Agribusiness Committee of Business Law Section. The committee is the premier committee addressing business matters for California agriculture.
Christopher Passarelli Coordinates Tour and Examination of California Delta Water Issues. LGP, through the efforts of Chris Passarelli and in conjunction with the California Department of Water Resources and the Agribusiness Committee of the State Bar’s Business Section, recently embarked on the eleventh Annual Water Tour. The Tour offers participants a comprehensive view of California’s delta infrastruction, current water crisis issues and the surrounding legal framework.
Robert Payne and Passarelli to Speak at State Bar Annual Meeting in Monterey. Robert Payne and Chris Passarelli will speak at the California State Bar Annual Meeting in Monterey on September 23 on “Departing Employees and Intellectual Property Protection.”
Scott Allen Speaks to Texas Bar on Unauthorized, Online Dealers. Scott Allen spoke at the Texas Bar Annual Meeting in Fort Worth in June on intellectual property and related issues facing manufacturers and producers who are plagued by unauthorized, online dealers. Unauthorized dealers often compete unfairly in eBay and other sites by improperly undercutting prices and selling counterfeit or gray market goods.
Robert Payne finishing up 2-year appointment on AIPLA Amicus Committee. Partner Robert Payne is completing his final year on the AIPLA Amicus Committee. The committee evaluates cutting-edge cases coming before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and Supreme Court on all intellectual property issues. It advises the board of directors of the American Intellectual Property Law Association on what positions the AIPLA should take and assists/coordinates/prepares briefs for filing with those courts in support of the organization's position.
LGP Partner Teams With Monster Cable GC
Robert Payne of LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne teamed with Monster Cable’s General Counsel, David Tognotti, to discuss protection of patents and trademarks. The pair spoke on Nov. 14th at the annual California Bar Intellectual Property Law Institute in Dana Point, California. The title of the discussion at the St. Regis/Monarch Beach Hotel was “Beyond the Claim’s Scope – Patent Damages in the Wake of Reform.”(

LGP Lawyer Ed Kelly Honored by Boston Law School
Boston University School of Law will honor attorney Ed Kelly this week for his groundbreaking legal work to fight illicit trafficking and counterfeit operations in Asia. Kelly will be presented with the Victor Garo Public Service Award in a ceremony Wednesday night at Barristers Hall on the Campus of BU.Kelly, a 1991 alumnus of BU, joined the Monterey, California law firm of LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne in August. He is based in Bangkok where he oversees the firm’s operations in Asia.(

Robert Payne, of LaRiviere, Grubman & Payne is chair of the Patent Litigation Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Payne previously served as Vice-Chair on the Committee for two years, on the editorial board and as chair of the Trade Secrets Committee. The Patent Litigation Committee is one of the largest committees in the AIPLA. Its members are lawyers across the US who regularly handle patent disputes in federal courts and related venues. The committee shares insights, information and educational programs on patent litigation and advises the AIPLA board of directors on related matters.(
